Those handsome green get-ups you see above are what the Philadelphia Eagles will be wearing on opening weekend against the Green Bay Packers. They call it "kelly green," as if this is the shade of green that's weird, and not this one.
It's part of the Eagles' effort to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their last NFL championship in 1960. They also won it in 1948 and 1949, all pre-Super Bowl days.
I like the look. I file this one under "uniform changes that need to be made permanent." There's nothing necessarily wrong with the current Eagles look, but they sort of epitomize a modern, trend-embracing theme in sports uniforms.
We went through a phase where everyone thought they need to add some black to their look, because -- well, I don't know why, I guess it's because black is so "edgy." During that same period, we also liked to take a normal color and bastardize it to the point where you couldn't find it in the Crayola 128 pack.
Call me old-fashioned if you want -- look at my hat, for goodness sake! -- but I prefer the old look, and its simple, clean and distinctive features. To me, that says Eagles.
